I came to Moksha Yoga Kelowna on a Friday evening in 2011 and experienced my first shaky, sweaty, sweet Karma class — my first hot yoga class, ever. I remember climbing the stairs a few classes later and being greeted like I belonged. I remember looking into my own eyes in the mirror and recognizing myself as if for the first time. I knew I had found my home, and in early 2013 I joined the Energy Exchange program to give back to a place that had already given me so much. I now manage the Energy Exchange program, and with pride and gratitude I lead an amazing team of EEs who work hard to keep our studio space shining.
I grew up here in the Okanagan, in a little house next to an orchard filled with fruit trees. I felt myself growing deep roots and decided to complete my education at UBCO so I could stay in the valley. I now work on campus at the Disability Resource Centre, as well as loving my time as Energy Exchange Program Manager at MYK, and I find the two areas of my life complement each other beautifully. I know how important it is to have a space where you feel deeply connected to yourself and your community. The Moksha pillar “Be Accessible” resonates in my heart, and I strive to cultivate a sense of welcome, safety, and belonging for every person who shares this space.
